About Xiao Long Bao

Xiao Long Bao is a taiwanese restaurant in San Francisco, California. It is listed at 625 Clement St, San Francisco, CA 94118, which places it among the local businesses of San Francisco that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by. Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

The business lists hours on 6 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 8 am–5 pm. It is closed on Wednesday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (415) 666-3998. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. Its website is xlb.netlify.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on Google across 358 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded taiwanese restaurants in San Francisco.

I was working across the street and as I was leaving I saw the sign for xlb. I didn't check any reviews. I just went in blind. I ordered the xlb, shrimp and chive pan fried dumpling, ha Gow, sui mai and milky custard bao. I think it was $21 pretty good price in this economy where everytime I eat it's $40-50 per person. Obviously this is not a sit down restaurant to go only. What I really enjoyed: the Shrimp Chive Pan Fried Dumpling Milky Custard Bao XLB The black vinegar sauce to me was excellent. Usually it's just straight up black vinegar. Here it is sweeter and it made the XLB so much better. What could have been better: Ha Gow Siu Mai Really disappointed those were not up to my standard. No amount of chilli oil or black vinegar could save them from being just flavorless.

despite getting my order wrong, this was a nice little spot to get tasty lunch for a cheap price! my boyfriend and i stopped here in hopes of trying soup dumplings, but i guess the server misheard me and gave us both regular dumplings. i was bummed because soup dumplings were what we came for, but i was also pleasantly surprised when i tasted them. very delicious and they give you a very good amount for the price (about 12 or so for $5-6) i’d say definitely stop here for food, but make sure they get your order right!!!

When on the road and working you try and eat best you can, when and where you can. This hole in the wall only takes cash, you will walk away with either a plastic bag or a container of sorts and the folks don’t have patience w/ you if you’re not quick, clear and confident in your order. Whatever…the food is worth it! 🤌 It seems to all be made in house and sells off quickly which means they are producing and cooking all day as best they can to keep up GREAT value and simply good👍

6/19/2025 update: Whenever I'm in the neighborhood, I always have to come by and grab some shrimp rolls $4.60 (order of 3.) Their regular egg rolls $4 (order of 3) are good too. Alternating between each one gives a good contrast of flavors. The next thing you know, all six rolls are gone. It would be nice if they had some red sweet and sour sauce or maybe some sort of ginger vinegar egg rolls sauce for dipping. But it doesn't really need it. The wait was only about five minutes today at 1pm. Great job everyone at Xiao Long Bao. Original review: Xiao Long Bao is a take-out only dim sum restaurant. No indoor dining. We stand on the sidewalk and eat in front of the restaurant anyways, so no biggie. The other two dim sum take-out restaurants on Clement are more busy. So, if you are in a hurry, go here. The other two places are better, but not worth me waiting another 15 minutes. Our favorite items here are the fried crab meat dim sum and their crispy shrimp egg rolls. Both are filled to the brim. The beef pancakes are good if they are fresh. We came at noon-ish and the pancake wasn't crispy anymore. Regardless, I do recommend this establishment to our community.

We tried a few different dishes (beef rice noodles, lotus wrap, sesame ball, shrimp & chive dumpling) but none of them really hit the spot, they were good but not wow. Prices are fair, service is speedy and they accept credit card.
